But thanks to Freud and many other pioneers in the study of psychology, we now know just how closely connected physical and mental health can be. It has been proved that those who are happy live longer lives and are less prone to developing chronic diseases. But what is it the makes us happy – and therefore healthy – in the first place?

Love is often the answer given to this question. A series of studies have proved that loving relationships and a close network of friends can have as good an effect on our health as giving up smoking, taking medication or losing weight. Those who are married are generally happier than those who are unmarried, living longer and having fewer appointments with the doctor. So, whether you meet your partner through eHarmony dating or through friends, your relationship could keep you both happy and healthy.

But why is this? Why is love so beneficial to our general health and well-being? Here are a few factors…

Emotional support

Life is full of anxieties, and we continually have challenges to face and problems to solve. Having a stable, long-term partner means we have someone to tackle all of these challenges with. They will give us emotional support and honest advice on everything we go through. This significantly reduces levels of stress and leads to better health. Studies have proved that those in happy marriages have lower blood pressure.

Calming hormones

Being in love triggers the release of a number of neurotransmitters. Oxytocin is released in the later stages of love, reducing anxiety and improving our ability to handle pain. Dopamine is released throughout the relationship, causing feelings of elation and calm, and similarly reducing stress. In a study in 2011, levels of dopamine were found in new couples and those who had been married for 20 years. However, the new couples also had high levels of stress accompanying the neurotransmitter, as the falling-in-love stage can lead you to experience anxiety, obsession and tension. So while long-term commitment can reduce stress, being newly in love can have the opposite effect!

Taking care of each other

Having a partner is good for your health in a more practical way. You have someone to impress, someone to keep healthy for and someone who will nag you into taking care of yourself. For this reason, those in relationships are more likely to exercise and less likely to indulge in unhealthy behaviours.

Giving us a purpose

Romantic relationships give us a good motivation to keep going. They provide us with a feeling of meaning and purpose in our lives. This means we are inclined to take better care of ourselves and avoid dangerous or high-risk activities. No matter if you meet your special someone on black dating websites or at work, fall happily in love and you will reap the benefits for the rest of your life!

There was probably a time in your life when you had a seemingly impossible dream. Perhaps you wanted to travel the whole world. Or maybe you dreamt of climbing the Mt. Everest. You were so passionate then, telling everyone of this dream. Maybe you even did some training in anticipation of the dream becoming a reality. But as the years went by, you have probably stagnated in your current status and the dream has slowly slipped away. Now, the thought of that dream has become just a figment of your imagination. What dampened your hopes of achieving it?

You probably got distracted. You were baffled by people close to you and those who lured you into another endeavor. You stepped off from the path you were taking and went off to another direction.

According to the laws of physics, “a body in motion tends to remain in motion until an outside force acts upon it.” This holds true of distractions. Probably, some friends or family members applied the force of discouragement or maybe convinced you to follow a “more worthwhile” venture. Consequently, you ceased your preparations, you stopped your studies or you stopped working in the field you actually love. All those distractions occupied your attention, making you forget about your dream. You just decided one day that dreams are just a fantasy and are not meant to become reality.

You may have met some people who reminisce about things that they used to do. They might mention that they would go back to doing it again someday. This is like the lady who keeps on buying designer clothes that are five sizes smaller. She is hoping that someday, her old figure will come back again and she will have a chance to fit into these clothes. Isn’t that a lame excuse for staying away from the risk of living your dream?

When you have a goal that is worth going after, you have to follow the law of critical success in your life. According to this law, you should “always be doing something that moves you closer to your goal.” Ask yourself what you are doing to bring you nearer to making your dream come true.

Why don’t you put the law of momentum in action? When you act on something which takes you closer to that which you desire, your self confidence will be boosted. Distractions swing you off course or slow your momentum but actions gather your speed forward along your chosen course. Every action gives you more strength to take another. You will gather momentum and you will become unstoppable. You will be liberated from guilt and self pity. The world will envy you.

One of the dualities we face in life is the duality of honor and dishonor. To tolerate dishonor is very difficult. When you are dishonored, you get angry or depressed depending on the person who dishonors and the circumstances in which you are dishonored. In anger, some people even pull out a weapon and declare war against those who offend them. In depression, some people just remove themselves from society, go to a lonely place, and cry.

The saying goes that for one who is honored, dishonor is worse than death. However, even more difficult than tolerating dishonor, is to tolerate honor without becoming proud. Saint Paul of the Christian faith said, “Pride comes before the fall.” The very integrity of ones humanness is destroyed when there is egotism and false pride.

How to tolerate this duality of honor and dishonor? The consciousness of a person who is at an elevated state is like the ocean. The ocean, because of its vast depth, is not disturbed by the changes that may take place surrounding it. In the rainy season, sometimes rivers several kilometers in width pour huge quantities of water into the ocean and in the summers the same rivers may become small streams. Does either situation disturb the ocean? Not at all, because of the volume and depth of the ocean. Similarly, a person who finds voluminous fulfillment and peace within his soul is not affected by the ever-changing external circumstances. Sometimes honor may come his/her way and sometimes dishonor may come his/her, but he/she is least affected by that.

Debt, this is one word people always struggle with. Whoever we are, whether we are stayed home mother or business owner, debt seems to be the most common similarity bounding the entire citizens of our country. Debt is business is able to give a great impact because it influences the income of many employees. For example, if a business is about to collapse, there are so many individuals who are unable to get salary.

Therefore, if we are business owners and have a problem with multiple debts like business debt, Payday loans, and many others, then we should make an action right away. The most recommended solutions are using debt settlement or debt consolidation program. Both of the programs are good and we just need to adjust it with our business and debt condition. On the debt consolidation, we can blend our entire debts into a single debt, while on the debt settlement; we can make a negotiation with the lenders to lower our payment.

Based on people’s experiences, debt settlement works better because it only takes about five years to get the entire debts paid, while in debt consolidation, it takes about more than 10 years. Well, it is so clear of which solution we should choose if we consider about the length of time.

So you want to be successful in life? Is that what you want? Then you better stop failing and become aware of these 10 ways to fail in life.

You see, I’ve been asked many times for how to achieve success and weird enough, seems like nobody’s taking that advice seriously. Then I realized one thing – most people are ALREADY failing before they even got started!

The article I wrote below is slightly controversy compare to the normal goodie-type personal development advice because this is the TRUTH. If I want to keep everyone happy and write about the colorful rainbow, birds chirping, flowers blooming, etc then I should just opens up a nursery home and take care of children. I want to tell you the truth straight to your face because I’ve been there and heard the garbage lies thrown everywhere.

Avoid these and you’ll automatically be on the right track (provided you want to be successful)…

1. Mixing With Losers
It’s a guaranteed way to fail in life with this. Whatever you like to do, losers will just tell you it won’t work and after some time, you will also become a loser. High five, welcome to the losers’ club. Something about losers you should know: they like to ‘recruit’ new people and are very comfortable in their shoes. They don’t welcome Changes. So when you see someone with any of these two characteristics, you know what you should do.

2. Don’t Know What You Want
The most common goal I hear all of the time is, “I want to be rich”. I mean it’s fine with that generic goal but the problem is, how rich do you want to be? Or how rich is rich? Put it this way – the methods used to make a million and $3,000 are different. No wonder some people couldn’t experience breakthroughs in life because they are playing small for big goals. If you want to make a million, you better put in that level of commitment, bucko.

3. You Want Everything
It’s nice to have a lot of things but if you go chasing everything, you get nothing. Let me tell you why – you only have 24 hours a day and you’ve got to focus on your priorities. I know, I know, you can hire others and so on but the fact is, you’ve got to want ’something’ first to lead to another ’something’, then to everything. Make sense?

4. Watching the “Secrets” Way Too Much
I’m not here to criticize Law Of Attractions (LOA) and don’t want to receive hate emails. As a matter of fact, I do believe in it and have friends who appeared in the Secrets. But it’s a surefire way to fail if you keep on watching the “Secrets” and doing ‘attraction’ by sitting down on your floor manifesting 3 hours a day. In my point of view, scientifically, Law of Attraction runs on the concept of ‘believing’. When you believe you can achieve your goal, you will take actions to actually achieve it but if you don’t understand this basic element and think LOA is some sort of miracle remedy, oh boy, you’re in for a big surprise for failure.

5. You Don’t Truly Know Why You Want Success
Wanting everything is bad enough – but it gets even worse if you don’t even know the reason why you’re trying to achieve your goal. What’s the deal? Without a solid reason, a compelling reason, where are you going to find the motivation and encouragement for you to overcome obstacles? You think it’s going to be fun ride to success? Then you haven’t been traveling – it’s a rocky road, my friend. Most people failed to achieve their goals because they never complete the journey– they give up half way (or at the beginning) because they cannot see the worth of accomplishments.

Caught up in the hectic daily activities of clinical practice and administration, health care practitioners can easily lose sight of long-term goals … easily forget what they set out to accomplish for themselves and for their loved ones. Yet proven strategies exist to help busy professionals achieve happy, healthy, productive, and well-balanced lives. To help you regain some perspective, an expert in life planning and personal productivity presents the following tips.

“To be what we are, and to become what we are capable of becoming, is the only end of life,” wrote Robert Louis Stevenson in Familiar Studies of Men and Books1. Simple as that goal may sound, most people get so caught up in the day-to-day activities of living that they never come even close to realizing their full potential or their lifelong dreams.

Physician assistants and nurse practitioners, like other health care providers, are particularly vulnerable to this “activities-of-daily-living” trap. Starting with The Oath of Hippocrates (“With purity and holiness I will pass my life and practice my Art…. Into whatever houses I enter, I will go into them for the benefit of the sick….”) and ending with the rigors of daily practice, health care demands personalities willing to place the needs of others ahead of self. Does this leave the practitioner with no time to pursue personal goals and dreams? Sometimes. But there are ways to assure personal growth and fulfillment, which ultimately improve a provider’s ability to care for others.

GOAL PLANNING: WHY BOTHER?

Goal planning challenges the individual to give life a preplanned direction by employing specific exercises and strategies. Through goal planning, a person can take the shapeless life “direction” that most professionals have fermenting in the back of their minds – that fatalistic voice that says “work hard, do your best, and let whatever happens happen” – and learn to control many of the key events that ultimately give form to a person’s life.

The first step in goal planning is to ascertain the control you do have over your life. Try this exercise: First, on a clean sheet of paper, list the past five years vertically along the left side (1994,1993,1992,1991, and 1990). Next to each year, list the most important event that occurred in your life during that year. Now examine that list and estimate the percentage of control or influence that you had over those events.

After using this exercise with numerous groups, I’ve observed that most people exert a significant influence over at least 80% of the most notable developments in their lives. Too few, however, take the time to reflect on their influence, allowing themselves to drift into believing that external forces really chart the course. Seeing how much control you personally exert over your life helps you to realize that you really are in charge, and that you can chart a course to success.

How does someone actually plan for success in advance, rather than letting things happen and hoping for the best? Skeptics still balk; even though, in retrospect, they acknowledge some influence over events, they do not concede an ability to plan these events in advance. To some degree, their argument is true: Goal setting is not a crystal ball, nor does it carry with it any guarantees. But goal setting definitely improves your odds for a successful outcome.

Many companies use “Management By Objectives” (MBOs) to motivate their work staff to higher levels of achievement. This is a simple method of translating an organization’s business objectives down to each individual’s specific contribution. For instance, if the goal for your entire office is to see 500 patients each week, your individual objective might be to see 125 of those patients personally.

In one review of studies on MBOs2, 66 out of 68 studied (97%) attributed positive results to their use. In fact, in 28 studies using objective measurements, productivity was shown to increase by 44%. The studies also showed that when commitment on the part of the management is high, results are even better. When goals are personal and individual, rather than corporate or vague, they are more readily adopted.

TARGETING YOUR GOALS

To get the most out of each aspect of your life, start by creating a life plan from which to set specific goals. This way you’ll know where you want to end up. Setting goals “programs” our minds: The goals we set direct our mental focus. Subconsciously, the mind works continuously to satisfy the expressed need.

Notice that, here again, I said “life plan,” not “career plan.” Goal setting has application far beyond one’s career. In fact, those people who set only business-related goals decrease their odds of having a well-balanced, happy life: Those who direct their subconscious to solve only business problems risk creating lives that focus on careers and neglect all other areas.

Goal setting is a powerful process for thinking about your ideal future, and for motivating yourself to turn this vision of the future into reality.

The process of setting goals helps you choose where you want to go in life. By knowing precisely what you want to achieve, you know where you have to concentrate your efforts. You’ll also quickly spot the distractions that would otherwise lure you from your course.

More than this, properly-set goals can be incredibly motivating, and as you get into the habit of setting and achieving goals, you’ll find that your self-confidence builds fast.
Achieving More With Focus

Goal setting techniques are used by top-level athletes, successful business-people and achievers in all fields. They give you long-term vision and short-term motivation. They focus your acquisition of knowledge and help you to organize your time and your resources so that you can make the very most of your life.

By setting sharp, clearly defined goals, you can measure and take pride in the achievement of those goals. You can see forward progress in what might previously have seemed a long pointless grind. By setting goals, you will also raise your self-confidence, as you recognize your ability and competence in achieving the goals that you have set.
Starting to Set Personal Goals

Goals are set on a number of different levels: First you create your “big picture” of what you want to do with your life, and decide what large-scale goals you want to achieve. Second, you break these down into the smaller and smaller targets that you must hit so that you reach your lifetime goals. Finally, once you have your plan, you start working to achieve it.

We start this process with your Lifetime Goals, and work down to the things you can do today to start moving towards them.
Your Lifetime Goals

The first step in setting personal goals is to consider what you want to achieve in your lifetime (or by a time at least, say, 10 years in the future) as setting Lifetime Goals gives you the overall perspective that shapes all other aspects of your decision making.

To give a broad, balanced coverage of all important areas in your life, try to set goals in some of these categories (or in categories of your own, where these are important to you):

Is balance an attainable goal?

Business is one aspect of your life and not the only one. However it doesn’t always feel that way does it? Running a company is a huge commitment and can be very rewarding but it can also dominate your life. When things are going really well there are always demands on your time that go with a full book of business. When times are harder there are increasing demands on your time to market the business, work a little harder, reach out to existing and past clients and so on.

It is easy to get sucked into the business to the detriment of other aspects of your life. This is a complex area that is different for everyone but the following tips may help you begin to get some of that elusive quality in your life – balance.

 1. What are your passions in life – what do you feel you were put on Earth to do? This is important in business as you will spend so much time there, but what about the rest of your life? If you say family, what do you love about your family and how are you honoring that day to day? Write these down

2. List what you have to do – think about as many things as you can that you need to do daily at home, and in business. Also list as many things you can think of that you would love to do – things that feed your passion. There may be some overlap – hopefully there will be.

3. Saying yes/saying no – write down these things on one side of a piece of paper under the headline: YES. Draw a line down the middle of the page and write the headline NO on the other side.

Look at your page. For every item in the YES column, assume that to do that, you have to say NO to something else. List those other things in the NO column. For example: When you say YES to working late at the office, you may be saying NO to reading to your kids, taking in a movie with your partner, playing tennis and so on. Conversely playing golf may necessitate you making sacrifices at work.

This is a very simple exercise that helps with a few things.

1. Connect with what really matters to you – in the rush of business this may become cloudy. It always helps to have it in front of you

2. Gain an appreciation for your tasks – seeing these written down may be surprising and some may immediately appear superfluous

3. Make some simple decisions – When you see the trade off between two activities it makes the decision much easier than when trying to sort through all the things in front of you.

4. Turn tradeoffs into conscious action – by linking business activities to those in your personal life, you can consciously decide between them at any given moment. This can change over time. For example when you have to work late and sacrifice putting your kids to bed, you can make the decision to ensure you spend time with your kids at bedtime tomorrow – what will you have to give up at work to do that? You are then able to prioritize and reschedule the work event for tomorrow

5. Eliminates tasks, saves time – you will be surprised that some of the sacrifices you face are not worth it. When you look into it you will find many examples of tasks that can be outsourced, reduced or even eliminated.
